I wanted those members of the sales team that had over achieved their annual targets (by a considerable amount) to be rewarded with an experience that they would remember for the rest of their lives. I didn’t want it to be a ticket to Rio or New York however, it had to be an experience that built even greater confidence, team spirit and therefore benefit to the business. Tony Wallington explained to me what he was trying to achieve in team building through extreme, but ultimately safe, ice sports. I have known Tony for a number of years through the Cresta Run and because of his outstanding management of the British Bobsleigh Team and knew that he would be consummately professional and safe in his execution of his course – these were after all my best sales people. I cannot exaggerate the success of the experience for the team. They came back thrilled by the experience and by their own achievements in overcoming – let’s face it – fear. I was delighted when pretty well all of them said that it was the most amazing thing they have ever done, and more delighted when they started asking what the target they needed to achieve to go back next year. It achieved everything that I wanted it to achieve.
