Wild Empordà in Spring

Join us for a five-day Spring hiking tour through the bucolic landscapes of Alt and Baix Empordà. Our local guides have spent years walking and cycling in this region. Friends of local wine and olive oil makers, they will provide you with a unique perspective of a corner of Catalonia infused with fascinating culture, history and jaw dropping vistas.

We will wend our way along the forest trails and countryside tracks of the GR11 and Cami de Ronda. Each evening we will arrive to the comfort of traditional dinners and carefully handpicked accommodation, from beautiful manor houses in vineyards to seafront hotels with sea views.

“Never before has exercise been such a joy, interrupted by a little wine-tasting in the morning, and then a leisurely lunch by the sea”

    A taster

    • Distance: 14km | Overnight: Can Xiquet
    • Distance: 11-18km | Overnight: Hotel Llane Petit
    • After exploring Cadaques, a place that inspired much of the work of flamboyant Catalan surrealist, Salvador Dali, we will leave for Baix Empordà along backroads until we reach the beautiful medieval town of Peratallada. Following a menu del dia lunch, we will continue towards the coast for an afternoon hike along the Cami de Ronda. We shall pass through charming fishing villages and across golden beaches – a stark contrast to the scenery from our hikes on day two and three – before arriving to Finca Bell Lloc. Bell Lloc is one of our favourite places in the region – a renovated manor house hidden in the contours of the Gavarres National Park. Pepi will be waiting to welcome us with a G&T before her husband and chef, Ángel, prepares a 3-course dinner paired with Bell Lloc’s own wine.

Distance: 10km | Overnight: Bell Lloc
    • A short drive from Bell Lloc is the Ardenya Massif, rich with eucalyptus and pine trees sitting beneath stunning granite landforms. Starting from Els Caraixells, Josep Maria will lead an 8km loop that climbs up to the Coll de Montclar. An extended route towards the coast can be walked if we wish. Our friends at family-run vineyard, Mas Ponsjoan, will prepare a simple Catalan lunch with delicious home grown produce from the farm, matched with a selection of their organic wines. After lunch, we can take a cellar tour with Manel or Marti before a short journey or walk home to Finca Bell Lloc. The afternoon is yours to spend at ease – dinner will be served when you are ready by Ángel, a final Catalan feast to celebrate your time in the Empordà.

      Distance: 18km
    • One final morning in the Empordà. We will be sad to see you leave. Josep Maria will transfer you to Girona airport for your return journey home.
