4TH – 8TH JULY 2019

The Empordà in Spring

Join Bacchus for a four-day adventure through the verdant landscapes of Baix Empordà and Girona in Spring. Our local guides have spent years walking and cycling in this region. As friends of local wine and olive oil makers, they will provide you with a unique perspective of a corner of Catalonia infused with fascinating culture, history and jaw dropping vistas.

We will wend our way along forest trails, countryside tracks and peaceful back roads. Each evening we will arrive to the comfort of home cooked dinners and carefully handpicked accommodation, from beautifully restored medieval castles to charming 14th century farmhouses.

“Never before has exercise been such a joy, interrupted by a little wine-tasting in the morning, and then a leisurely lunch by the sea”

    • Distance: 40km | Overnight: La Plaça
    • Distance:45km | Overnight: La Plaça
    • The Gavarres National Park sits between Madremanya and the farmer’s vineyards of Calonge. We will take a 25km route on more forest trails and peaceful roads to Mas Ponsjoan. Mas Ponsjoan is a family-run farmer’s vineyard that has been producing wine since the 16th century. We will sit down for a simple lunch with the family – fresh homegrown produce paired with their delicious organic wines. A short cycle remains to Finca Bell Lloc – a renovated manor house nestled in the hills with vistas over the Mediterranean. Pepi will welcome us with open arms and a G&T while her husband and chef, Angel, prepares a surf and turf banquet of tapas.

Distance: 37km | Overnight: Bell Lloc
    • Finca Bell Lloc’s tranquility may well mean you choose to spend the morning enjoying your surroundings. However, if you still have an appetite to explore, the Costa Brava coastline beckons. Descend towards the azure Mediterranean waters for a sea swim before returning to Bell Lloc for lunch. We will then say our goodbyes and transfer you to Girona airport or train station for your journey home.

      Distance: 18km

    Support – Bikes – Flights

Our host and local guides love getting to know our guests and take great joy in sharing their intricate knowledge of the region to ensure you have a memorable time in this special part of Catalonia. There will always be a support vehicle nearby to accompany you during your time with us. If you ever feel like you’ve had enough time on the bike, please just let us know and we will be more than happy to give you a lift.

The best bike for the job is a hardtail mountain bike, ensuring you the comfiest of rides on the peaceful trails and country tracks through the Empordà. If you’d prefer a little assistance along the way, you are able to request an electric bike for a supplement of £100. We couldn’t recommend them highly enough.

If possible, we ask for all guests to arrive to Girona airport or train station on Thursday afternoon. From here, we will take you onwards to our first overnight location. There are flights to Girona from London Luton and Stansted and other regional airports in the UK. Those who fly to Barcelona, please get in touch and we can arrange alternative transfers.
